The port city of Valencia lies on Spain’s south-eastern coast, where the Turia River meets the Mediterranean Sea. It’s known for its City of Arts and Sciences, with futuristic structures including a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum. Valencia also has several beaches, including some within nearby Albufera Park, a wetlands reserve with a lake and walking trails. So lets go beyond paella, sangria and delicious jamon, Valencia and its community also offer a wide range of high quality and original craft beers. There are 6/7 breweries (May 2022) to go at, so for Spain that's some beer city plus there are many great beer bars and bottle shops. Valencia’s "Old City" The Ciutat Vella is packed with bars and cafe's, with it's narrow, winding streets, it’s not the easiest neighborhood to find your way around, but that just makes the adventure more fun. So let's get to the Otto's best craft beer venues in Valencia.
ZETA BEER, Carrer Cami a la Mar 21
Situated in peaceful Alboraya, Zeta is one of the main producers of beers in Valencia and the surrounding area. Started in 2013, there core range of three is Zeta Hell, a smooth lager, Zeta Hop, an classic intense IPA and Zendra a Rauchbier. All of Zeta’s beers are unpasteurized, unfiltered, and made of 100% natural ingredients. They are open from Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 17:30, for sales and individual tours. This is a no frills brewery but the guys are very cool and will give guided tours in which Guillermo explains with great affection and passion the different processes and elaboration of the craft beer. But above all they brew some brutal beers! Otto says, highly recommended for curious and quality beer consumers 🍻
Tyris On Tap, Carrer de la Taula de Canvis 6
This is an amazing brewpub, with very friendly staff and a hipster vibe. Located right next to the central market, on a very cool and colourful corner. The craft beer selection is top notch, with ten taps, seven of their own beers and three guests. Flight's of four 20cL beers are available with free great bar snacks! They cover a wide spectrum of hop-rich ales, so you'll most likely find your fix.🍺 Quite modern inside with some cool wall art. The music adds to the experience with classic American blues and folk.🎸 The menu is classic tapas and also a tex mex thing going on the pulled pork sandwich is amazing, like the ones in Tennessee.🤠 Otto says, you’ll want to come back again and again.👍🏻
Birra & Blues Valencia Point, Av.de María Cristina 12
A nice building facing the beach, with a large covered area to the rear which is also accessible directly from Avinguda Mare Nostrum. . Maybe a little out of town but the #2 bus from the city centre gets you within a couple of hundred metres. The effort is well worth it. The brewing equipment can be seen through the glass screen behind the bar. They have a great line up of their own brewed beer, from Red ales to IPA's. I think they have 10 of their own beers on tap. Lots of awards they had won at world beer festivals on the walls. The staff are great and helpful. Great food menu with classic pizza. Otto says excellent pizza and craft beers what more can you ask for?🍕 😃 Note: Possible second location at Av. Mare Nostrum, 34?
Sanders Craftbeer, Carrer de Higinio Noja, 30, bajo
A great microbrewery located near the City of Arts and Sciences, situated somewhat out of the way, at least out of the centre, nearest metro station is Ayora, from where there is about a 1 km walk. A big Swedish flag outside the bar leads you down the street. The owner's (he brews all the beer) and his wife (does all the cooking) are very friendly and welcoming. The brewery/restaurant is quite small and cosy. They have 3 Handpumps, (but hope to make that 5🤞🏼) The beer is delicious. What a great place to find a good beer, away from the boring ones available all around Spain! Otto says, great beer in a friendly environment.😊
La Socarrada. Cervesa Artesanal Premium, Polígono 6 Parcela 386 Paraje Ciscar
La Socarrada Beers currently has a leading position in the Spanish craft beer market with an annual output of over 2,000,000 bottles. Its main brands are: La Socarrada, beer brewed with rosemary and rosemary honey and Er Boquerón, the only beer in the world made with Mediterranean Sea water. Internationalization as a differentiating factor One of the keys to the success of the company is that wthey have been able to sell our products to over the world. They also have another brewery Bueno Aires (Argentina), where currently they are only brewing La Socarrada. In fact they are the only Spanish craft brewer with another brewery outside our country. Their beers have won awards in international competitions.
Barbacana, Passeig de l'Albereda 10
Barbacana the BrewPub of Cervezas Antiga, is one of the best craft beers on the Valencian scene! A chilled atmosphere and an amazing tasty twist on the tapas menu. Quite a modern no frills place, with some raised seating on the back wall while the rest is tall tables and chairs. Lots of bare walls and wood. They have 10 taps of their own beers that are listed on the chalk board behind the bar. The service is super friendly and the outside terrace is to die for on the warmer days. Otto says, craft beer and Tapas a great place to unwind 😜
Olhöps Craft Beer House, Calle Sueca 21
Located in the Russafa neighbourhood in central Valencia, in a fairly bar-heavy street. Olhöps Craft Beer Lab (H2Öl) features beer from their own nomad brewery, H2Öl. They had 10 beers on tap, combination between Spanish crafts and some International ones, plus a fridge with over 100 cans and bottles. Flights of 4/6 are available, served in nice little laboratory glassware. A good looking hip little place, with seating in and outside, the vibe feels exceedingly new age? The owners and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about craft beer. Otto say's a very good place to hang out for a while and go through the taps.😎
Turia Marzen, Carrer de Jorge Juan 19
Located in near the old market building. In this bar they sell Turia Märzen (that the cafe is named after) is probably the oldest and most drank Valencian beer the city. Taking its name from the river going through Valencia, it was first brewed in 1935. Turia Märzen is an amber beer with some red shades, elaborated with toasted malt. Aromatically intense, it has a clear flavour of fresh yeast as well as of aromatic herbs and a slight citrus aftertaste (It is possibley brewed on site?). The food is of good quality if a tad expensive compared to other places. The service was good and the prices decent. Otto says, all in all nice ambiance and really friendly people.
Ruzanuvol, Carrer de Lluís de Santàngel 3
A bit odd thing to find an Italian craft beer bar in Spain. The owner used to work at Birrificio Lambrate so specializes in Italian beer and a good place to sample authentic imported craft beers with 5 on tap. The tapas (free) Italian versions a kind of free buffet but varied stuff, salads, and sandwiches piadinas with Italian premium product. It's a welcoming bar with a modern, relaxed feel. A good atmosphere for a prolonged session. A few outdoor tables. Prices are good for Italian beers, which are generally pretty expensive. Otto says it’s a nice place if you want to try Italian beers.
The Market Cerveza Artesana, Carrer de les Danses 5
A great little place nestling in a side street in the city centre, near Mercat and not far away from the cathedral. Much more authentic than the larger craft ale venues. The best place in Valencia for craft ale, the owner knows his stuff and with his wife provide a great service. They have 7 taps, and a good selection of bottles, the basic Brewdog and Brooklyn range, and of course bottles from Tyris. It has bit of a dive bar feel to it? The tables on the outside are perfectly located in a quiet small street, so you don’t have to stand in the Valencian heat or air-conditioned inside. Very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Otto says, incredible staff, great atmosphere, and a strong selection of beers.😃
Las Cervecas del Mercado, Mercado de Colon, Carrer de Jorge Juan 19
A small bar/small located inside an old market hall. The Inside is long and narrow with the bar on one side and small tables and chairs on the other lots of beers on shelving and in old style American fridge’s, with some cool art work on the walls. One side devoted to Spanish micros, the other side has mostly European beers. Decent prices, interesting selection though.
Cervecería Bierwinkel, Calle de la Guardia Civil 4
A small bar/shop in the middle of the central market Mercado Central, which itself is very much worth a visit. Mostly some Belgian bottles, but also English, German, etc and most importantly some local Spanish beers. Very reasonably priced. The market is a have to visit in Valencia and this store is right there for your beery needs.
Black Chili, Calle Ciscar 10
A Tex mex place with good beer selection with a couple of taps and a bunch of bottles, among them a solid selection of Spanish crafts. Not much of an ambiance, mostly people having a quick snack. A nice place for a quick meal, with the addition of taps may be even good for some ticking.
La Boutique de la Cerveza, Luís Santángel 5
A rather small shop with good selection of imported and domestic craft beers. On your right hand side: Imported stuff, mostly European but also a few South Americans. To the left: a plethora of Spanish micros. Really an impressive selection. Fridges full of fresh hoppy beer. The guy working there was very friendly and is always ready to chat. Probably the best bottle shop in the city.
Beershooter Valencia, Avinguda del Cardenal Benlloch 104
A nice little shop mainly bottled beers but a couple on tap, helpful staff, with a range of seating options from stools at the bar to a sofa and chairs. Seating outside for when the weather is appropriate.
Llúpol celler de cerveses, Moro Zeid 2
A tiny hole in the wall place in a side street. Three taps, lots of bottles. A lot of fashionable european brands, the majority of which are imported. A friendly bartender who is familiar with his selection. A cool place for a few beers.
