Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario, is a major Canadian city along Lake Ontario’s north western shore. It's a dynamic metropolis with a core of soaring skyscrapers, all dwarfed by the iconic, free-standing CN Tower. Wondering what to do in Toronto? With exciting attractions, fun festivals and major productions, the city offers a daily adventure of things to do. Toronto also has many green spaces, from the orderly oval of Queen’s Park to 400 acre High Park and its trails, sports facilities and a zoo. Toronto also has 55+ (April 2022) breweries for the avid beer tourist to find.
Bellwoods Brewery, 124 Ossington Ave
Open: Mon - Thurs 17.00 - 23.00 Fri - Sun 14.00 - 23.00
A perfect brewery to check out in Trinity Bellwoods area, the hipster block of Toronto? They are a bit expensive but the beer quality is truly immaculate. They have around 6 big stools with patio, some heating. Inside has a long bar with the brewery equipment at the end and dozen of tables, and a narrow second floor balcony with some small tables. Tap selection is 6-8 Bellwood’s with 2 guest taps, no flights, but they pour 4 oz glasses. Bottles list includes some more rare stuff. Ambiance is nice, they serve seasonal dishes and a rotating selection of experimental beer. Not to mention that customer service was also amazing. Apparently they’re expanding the dining area by this summer 2022.
Bellwoods Brewery, 20 Hafis Rd, North York
Open: Daily 12.00 - 19.00
Love this location more than downtown, at the end of a road by railroad tracks. Reasonably big industrial seating space looking out over the brewery and seating outside. Same beer, same staff, no lines and lots of space! Great to be able to have a conversation with the staff and look at all the equipment and barrels they have. Don’t be deterred by the factory district vibes from the outside! Not intimate, but still a fun experience.
Rorschach Brewing Co. 1001 Eastern Ave
Open: Daily 12.00 - 20.00 or later?
Set in a century-old home, this brewpub offers creative ales plus internationally inspired snacks. Located in the far east of the brewery circuit. A long narrow bar up front with a small area in back with some small tables. There's a pretty sizeable patio and cute rooftop patio. Over a dozen house taps, with everything available in 5 oz pours. Well worth checking out.
Bar Hop Brewco, 137 Peter St
Open: Daily 16.00 - 00.00
If you’re a fan of craft beer, this is one of the places you should visit in Toronto! It’s located in Queen West core so it’s super easy convenient to get to. A relaxed 3-storey haunt with a wide selection of 36 taps of goodness, with about 10 Bar Hop offerings on tap, plus a creative menu of pub fare. The staff are super nice. Decor wise it is fairly different from Bar Hop, yet also very similar. Black walls and lightly industrial feel to it echo the original location. Nice bar feels well laid out. Tables on the main floor are probably around the same number as at King Street feel more plentiful and comfortable spacious environment. Price-wise, it’s not too crazy expensive considering the quality and quantity of beer they have. Definitely excited to visit in summer, as they have massive rooftop patio! A good beer geek spot.
Halo Brewery, 247 Wallace Ave
Open: Daily 11.00 - 21.00
A creative and humble local brewery with delicious brews. It's pretty small inside but there's a cute little patio in the front. Cool, fun and unique decorations. What a selection of Beers. From Hoppy IPAs, stellar Ales, and hands down one of the Best Stouts out there, and some wild sours!! If you want to let your taste buds go on an adventure, get hiking to this place. The staff are always outstanding and great for some good chat. Otto's top tip; Go earlier in the day and not on the weekends if possible to beat the rush. One of the top breweries in Toronto right know. A mandatory visit!
Indie Ale House Brewing Co. 2876 Dundas St W.
Open: Tues - Thurs 15.00 - 22.00 Fri - Sun 12.00 - 22.00
A small brewpub with a classy old-school vibe presents unusual beers, seasonal snacks and hearty meals. A very nice, cosy spot in a bustling, friendly neighbourhood. A corner "L" shaped bar with stools and lots of cosy booth seating. Beer list is on the board upfront, with 13-14 beers on tap. Flights of 5 available. The beers are top notch and brewed well over many styles. Another plus is the high quality of food. It’s seriously good here and not crazily priced either for that sort of quality. Great service. A must visit in Toronto.
Folly Brewpub, 928 College St
Open: Daily 11.00 - 00.00
A small brewpub on College near Bierra Volo. A laid-back haunt that offers house-brewed Belgian-style ales, plus an eclectic sharing menu. A great atmosphere, attentive knowledgeable staff, delicious food and great Saison inspired beers. A nice small, cosy bar are, street windows and lots of wood in a nice-looking comfortable interior. What more can you want?
Godspeed Brewery, 242 Coxwell Ave
Open: Daily 11.00 - 21.00 {later at weekends}
Located in India Town (Leslieville) in a former dollar store, the outside is quite dark with no big sign. The inside is somber, but very clean and well organised. This is a spiffy, Japanese place. A dozen or so beers on tap, all with Japanese names. Great atmosphere and design to the space. A wonderful story to the genesis of the brewery that also explains the heavy Japanese influence. A nice little menu for food and something for everyone. The service is quite cool and friendly. A gem in this neighbourhood!
Left Field Brewery, 36 Wagstaff Dr
Open: Wed -Mon 11.00 - 21.00 or later?
Located a little out of the way, but still walking distance from Godspeed and close to India town. A local brewery with great staff that give a great tour of the facility. They host events with tours and tastings as a part of it and you can hear the passion for beer in the voices of the team. As their name shows, they are very much into baseball and have all the Jay's games on live with sound during the season. They have 8 of their brews on tap at any given time and have bottles and cans you can take home to enjoy their creations where life takes you. They are family friendly and don't mind patrons bringing their own food to enjoy with a pint. I recommend you check them out!
Granite Brewery & Tied House, 245 Eglinton Ave E
Open: Daily 11.30 - 22.00
A neighbourhood brewpub with front and back patios, serving homestyle and English-inspired fare. Granite will become one of your favourite bars/restaurants in Toronto! An intimate English pub feel when you walk in. Lots of small rooms dividing up the area and there that typical Victorian-style swag all over the walls. As always, the emphasis is on English-style ales and they really do, do them well, especially the Galactic and Best Bitter. Ron Keefe, the owner and brew master, is a dedicated brewer who is very passionate with what they put out. All the food is amazing, way, way above your typical "pub" grub. Also free and easy parking in a garage underground. Good, friendly service, definitely a place to stop in Toronto.
Mill Street Brewpub - Toronto, 21 Tank House Lane
Open: Daily 12'00 - 23.00
Located in a very touristy area of the city, the Distillery District. A huge space inside the restaurant with on-site brewery. There’s a retail shop to the left as you walk in flogging the Mill St. merchandise and wares. It all feels a little corporate. The beers were clean but dull. Nothing offensive. The bartenders are friendly. The Distillery District is a lovely area to stroll around, and worth visiting the nearby sake house too. Brewery tours begin at 4:00pm, and run 7 days a week.
Mill Street Beerhall & Retail Store, 11 Stage Rd
Open: Daily 11.00 - 21.00
An interesting and unique space located in the the Distillery District and close to the brew pub. The place is a little cavernous and can be loud if there’s a private function in the private area that’s separated only by a curtain. Beer-wise it’s fine with the standard Mill St.fare and a few vaguely interesting seasonals. A neat place to go once, it’s fine, but the brewpub is better.
Burdock Brewery, 1184 Bloor St West
Open: Daily 11.00 - 23.00
A great spot to grab a beer! The ambiance hits a nice balance between casual and intimate. A white brick building a minute walk away from Dufferin metro station. An updated modern space with throwback Italian tile. Large patio on the side and tables in the front, decent sized bar, some couches and a bottle shop and bakery in the back. The brewhouse in the back visible through glass. The servers know their stuff. Good local and seasonal foods and an eclectic menu.
Blood Brothers Brewing, 165 Geary Ave
Open: Daily 11.00 - 23.00
Hands down one of the best breweries in Toronto (if you like super flavourful punch-in-the-face heavy beers). Located a 20 mins walk from/to Halo. A somewhat grungy place, like an old house turned tasting room, but decorated here and there with illuminati and church like things. Tap handles are large polished wooden branches. Limited seating so gets extremely busy during peak hour. Usually 8-10 of their own beers on offer. A cool ambiance too.
Amsterdam BrewHouse, 245 Queens Quay W
Open: Daily 11.00 - 23.00 (2am Fri-Sat)
A lakeside brewery, restaurant and retail space that pairs craft beer with local foods. A cool place to hangout with friends. The beer variety is good and has a unique taste. A modern interior with televisions and brewing equipment, the place is really big. The ambience is very good.
Also two other locations;
Amsterdam Brewery, 45 Esandar Dr
Open: Daily 11.00 - 21.00
A cool brewpub to hangout in the Leaside area. Excellent service, cold brews and a lovely location. Hands down the best pretzels in town! (That hot mustard dipping sauce 😋). Amsterdam Brewery has a long history of making amazing craft beer in Toronto since 1986. Brews include award winning ales and lagers as well as "Adventure Brews" made in limited quantity. There certainly is a beer here for every taste. As an added bonus the store features 25 and 50 packs that are priced well below individual prices at the beer store and the LCBO! All kinds of Amsterdam Brewery merchandise which includes; baseball caps, t-shirts, sweatshirts, beer glasses and other novelty items. When open tours are offered and taps on the other side of the retail store allow you enjoy a pint!
Amsterdam Barrel House, 87 Laird Dr, East York
Open: Thurs - Sun 11.00 - 22.00
A nice clean restaurant decorated in dark wood, this casual pub offers Amsterdam ales and an eclectic menu of comfort food.Lots of beer choices on tap, I recommend the Brown Nut Ale. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and offer quick service.
Goose Island Brewhouse Toronto, 70 The Esplanade
Open: Daily 11.00 - 22.00
An expansive brewpub with a beer garden located in the heart of downtown, near union station. Offering original, local ales and a changing menu of bar grub. Mostly their own stuff on tap, with a few from the Chicago brewery—including some Bourbon Country Stout taps! Decor is modern brewpub, bright with lots of tanks, wood and brick. Worth a visit for the ticks.
Northern Maverick Brewing Co, 115 Bathurst S
Open: Daily 12.00 - 01.00
An expansive brewpub with a large patio serving a locally sourced menu of upscale comfort food. A huge, warehouse-like place with massive ceilings and a copious amount of seating, with a long bar, it’s done up pretty stylishly. 9 house beers on tap, with flights of 4. Beer quality was mediocre to good, but nothing was overly impressive. Service is extremely friendly and very helpful. If you’re nearby, it’s worth a stop for the scoops, but it’s a not a destination visit.
Rainhard Brewing Co. 100 Symes Rd, York
Open: Daily 12.00 - 19.00 later at weekends
A great local craft brewery that hosts live music and supports vegan pop-up food vendors. What's not to love? A stone's throw from Shacklands and the Junction Craft breweries as well (3 brewers within 100 meters of each other, so a cool little crawl). A great industrial feel to the taproom. A long communal table, L shaped bar, and 8 seater picnic tables (4 of them), as well as a bar height window rail. Usually 7 beers on tap. Check their website for events and food offerings. Also bottled brews for purchase.
Junction Craft Brewery, 150 Symes Rd, York
Open: Tues - Sun 12.00 - 19.00
This is an excellent, classic craft brewery serving traditional German pilsners and lagers. Quite a spacious brewery restaurant with lots of unique features. Just look at the barrels used on the patio! There also a big parking. They have just over a dozen taps devoted to house brands, plus another 9 guests, flights of 4 available. The space has lots of exposed brick and high ceilings, it's a pretty nice space.
Shacklands Brewing, 100 Symes Rd #101, York
Open: Mon - Tues 12.00 - 17.00 Wed - Sat 12.00 - 21.00
Shacklands is sweet, they got a huge stage and live music and they are ready to rock! The inside is full of wicked trinkets, props and treasures, old school punk music, bric-a-brac souvenirs from the 1950s to present days. It's small and homey but they definitely got the goods. Great beer lives here, (not to steal any slogans), the patio is bigger than the inside and tours can be arranged to see the brewing process. A dozen taps, with flights of 4 x 70ml. The staff are friendly and lively and it's a great addition to the secret stockyards corner! Go do some tasting and take some home!
People's Pint Brewing Company, 90 Cawthra Ave Unit #101
Open: Mon - Fri 11.00 - 18.00 Sat - Sun 12.00 - 21.00
A cool industrial area this is the former location of Junction Craft, only about a 20 minute walk from Rainhard et al. The brewing equipment down the right side, the bar and seating on the left. A dozen or so taps, with flights of 4. Friendly service. Fairly middle of the road brewery that’s worth hitting if you’re on this side of town.

Brewing beer in small batches and plating bar snacks, the chefs crafts delicious dishes.
Henderson Brewing Co, 128A Sterling Rd

A lovely fun tongue in cheek brewery by the Museum of Contemporary Art. A very cool place, tucked away in a very industrial part of the city. A pretty standard tap room, open to the brewery part of the building. Nice on a summer’s day since they have big doors they open up. Really awesome "vintage" ads for their beers and brewery, some of which will have you giggling! The place has industrial feel, with long communal tables, and 12beers on tap.

A small brewery that is surprisingly cozy inside, a nice mix of old chairs tables and pews. The bar is faced with old doors. The brewery is open plan and looks cool and you get the brewing aromas at times. Friendly server's. 12 taps in a good range of styles. The “snack flight” is fun with a range of cheese, pickles, meat etc. A cool vibe the beers all tend to be decent, enjoyable and well done. Well worth a visit.

A easy going haunt, quite a small cosy place, dark with lots of wood and interesting artwork. It fits about two dozen people, a small bar and restaurant tables. A very small brew system is visible through glass at the back and an open kitchen for snax like sausages and cheeses. A decent variety of beers, tasty enough without being too exciting, flight of four 4 ounce pours available. Very friendly efficient staff. Well worth a look.
Common Good Beer Co. 475 Ellesmere Rd, Scarborough
Open: Daily 11.00 - 19.00
This brewery was an absolute delight! There are picnic tables inside to sit, it is pet and kid friendly, and has a ton of amazing beer choices, especially the small batch experiments. You never know what you're going to get, and once they're gone, it might be a long time before you can try them again. Visit frequently, drink fresh. The owner is a super friendly guy 😉 who is kind and attentive. A great location in Scarborough, close to the 401 exit.
Liberty Commons at Big Rock Brewery, 42 Liberty St
Open: Sat - Sun 11.00 - 00.00 Tues - Fri 11.45 - 22.00
A massive, easy going brewpub with a bottle shop and patio serving up classic pub grub and Southern BBQ. Excellent service, helpful staff. The BBQ options are all phenomenal, really nice change up from your usual Liberty Village spot. The brisket and jerk chicken meals are 10/10, definitely a must try. Having a great brewery incorporated makes this spot even better. Nice decor is modern blended with lots of exposed wood beams. Funky trendy lighting, but I like it. Lots of TVs a good spot to watch a game!
Kensington Brewing Company, 299 Augusta Ave

A microbrewery and bottle shop offering craft beer on tap and by the can in snug, industrial setting. The shop is up front, the bar in the back, intimately connected to the brew house. Some fermentation vessels are downstairs, you can peek in if you're sitting at the bar. Nice to see the brewers working, although they're separated by glass. Bar is small, six seats, plus a small handful of tables and two picnic tables. A cool mural on the wall. Bartender's are friendly enough. A selection of 8 of their own beers. The beers overall are all decent.
Black Lab Brewing, 818 Eastern Ave
Open: Daily 12.00 - 21.00
A great little brewery across from the commercial spot at Eastern/Leslie. A laid back, casual vibe and also dog friendly! Lots of owners were having a pint with their dogs at their feet (love this!). No food on offer because of the animal friendly policies, but they have no problem with you bringing or ordering your own. A fairly open space with a long bar and lots of communal high top tables. 10 beers on tap, with flights or 4 available. Overall a great neighbourhood spot with good beer and a nice solid atmosphere for you and your friends (furry or not..)
Avling, 1042 Queen St E

The space is fairly big and bright with high ceilings, a sleek circular bar in the middle with tons of bar seating. 11 beers on tap, with everything available in 4 oz pours. Open: Tues - Fri 11.00 - 15.00
Black Creek Pioneer Village, previously Dalziel Pioneer Park, is an open-air heritage museum in Toronto, located in the North York district, just west of York University and southeast of the Jane and Steeles intersection. This heritage site is certainly worth touring and soaking up the history if you have time. The tour guide is funny and informative, sights include the Mill and the Cooper’s buildings and the brewery. The brewer if on site will give you a run-down of the old ways of brewing and how they use a similar process to make the four beers they have on cask! There is a restaurant just across the hall downstairs. Would recommend visiting if you can get there.

A laid-back brewpub outpost with high ceilings and minimal decor offering house brewed beer and pub fare. Located in the old Lansdowne Brewery premesis. The venue itself has very warm atmosphere, lots of sunlight coming in during the day. A wonderful little private patio too. They don’t have lots of beer on taps compare to other breweries nearby but their beer tasted fresh and delicious, plus location is super cool. A very cosy and industrial vibe inside. They have many board game and some food options available as well.
Steam Whistle Brewery Biergärten and Taproom, 255 Bremner Blvd

This is a kind touristic trap (tap room?) next to CN Tower and Rogers Center and a nice railway exhibition/park. This brewery has only 2/3 beers, the best being a macroish Steam Whistle Pilsner, the food is like German-Oktoberfest? Tours and beer and merchandise available in large taproom. One reason to visit is to tick their beers. The tour is so worth it, as you get as much beer as you want to drink onsite plus a free gift (this may have changed now!). Open: 11.00 - 23.00 Daily
The Aviary (the attached taproom) Has scratch-made snacks and sandwiches served in an airy brewpub with plenty of TVs and an expansive patio. The tale of Longslice begins with two young hooligans, the Peat Brothers were seeking solutions to stock their high school parties with boatloads of beer. They weren’t yet old enough to buy beer, but they were old enough to buy all the ingredients. And so, with some help from their father, a passion for basement brewing was born. They knew that the time had come to shape their pursuits into a real, bonafide, Toronto-based brewery. Enter longtime friend Sebastian Lesch; a legend among those who know him.

A beautifully set-up place, sort of feeling more upscale, with a long bar and a good amount of tables, with seats upstairs too. Large TV over the bar had the Jays game on (no sound). Nice decor feels like suits it somehow. Plugs under the bar is a nice touch. Friendly servers. Ciders range from just okay to pretty good, 10 taps, plus a few uninteresting guest beer taps. Flights of 4. Food menu looked decent. Price is slightly on the high side.
