Madrid is a beguiling place with an energy that carries one simple message: this city really knows how to live. Also home to two world famous football clubs, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. Due to its economic output, high standard of living, and market size, Madrid is considered the major financial centre and the leading economic hub of the Iberian Peninsula and of Southern Europe. Madrid, Spain's central capital, is a city of elegant boulevards and expansive, manicured parks such as the Buen Retiro. It’s renowned for its rich repositories of European art, including the Prado Museum’s works by Goya, Velázquez and other Spanish masters. The heart of old Hapsburg Madrid is the portico-lined Plaza Mayor, and nearby is the baroque Royal Palace and Armory, displaying historic weaponry. The city may have more bars than any other city on earth – a collection of storied cocktail bars and nightclubs that combine a hint of glamour with non-stop marcha. It's easier than ever to find craft beer in Madrid, from tapas tastings, the 11 brewpubs (May 2021) and bar crawls, here are some of the best places to check out in the Spanish capital.
So what you need to do is ask for a "cerveza de craft" or "cerveza artesanal" and you should be on the right track for some good imbibing. Here are some useful phrases;
I want a beer please. = Quiero una cerveza por favor.
Please bring me another one. = Me puede traer otra por favor?
Do you have beer on tap? = Tienen cerveza de grifo?
What beer do you have on tap? = Qué cerveza de grifo tienen?
Mad Brewing, Julian Camarillo 19
A brewery restaurant located outside the city centre in a design and industrial neighbourhood. Yes it’s a bit out of the way, but it is certainly worth the venture. Set on a private street so you can be outside while enjoying your beverage. Inside it's rustic yet modern in appearance with lots of space. You can eat, in a large room overlooking the brew kit, it's also good for families with children? Mad Brewing beer only they have six different styles of beer: IPA; Pale Ale, Red Ale, Saison,.. all very fresh and good price. Good restaurant but questionable concept dishes. The food is reason enough to come, with some great traditional and modern dishes. Friendly staff. An essential stop if you want to see craft brewing in Spain. 🤩
Fábrica Maravillas, Calle de Valverde, 29
A very small brewpub that is quite beautiful with a lot of charm, and the brew kit can be seen behind a glass screen. Located close by the main Madrid street Gran Via (approx 5 min walking distance). The atmosphere is pleasant and they offer 6 fresh and quality beer's from the fermenter to your glass. Like most places in Spain the beer is available in the small (cana), medium and large glass size. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Fábrica Maravillas offers a fun window into Madrid’s nascent craft beer scene. 🤪
Cervezas La Virgen (Brewpub Las Rozas), P.I. Európolis, Calle Turín, 13
An artisan brewery offering guided tours of the brewing process, plus great beer and tasting in the bar, what more can you ask for? A great hidden gem, a bit difficult to find and certainly requires car/taxi to get there, but once you do, it is a totally different experience from most Spanish brewpubs? This is certainly a brewery first and a pub second, but in a good way. These guys have the spirit of Ninkasi. Great brew kit and really friendly and enthusiastic people offer extremely fresh beer, in the very cosy tap room that has a great atmosphere. Food wise they do the food is hotdogs in a panino that are really tasty. Great prices for the beer. It is worth seeking out, a must do place.👍🏻

Basically you’re drinking in the brewery in a working class neighbourhood. They have 5 taps, with well-made tasty beers. The food is minimal, but that’s not why come here, friendly service and a great place to mix with the local crowd. Also they have a rotating pop-up kitchen that is always impressive. Don't miss this gem in the heart of Madrid. 😊
Cervezas Patanel, Av. de Pedro Diez, 21
You cannot miss a visit to Patanel if you are a beer lover. They have different guest beers, which are ever changing in addition to their own beers which are delicious. A bar for friends and couples a happy atmosphere. They serve very nice food, wholly artisan and with a very interesting vegan choice. There are loads of tables but it gets super busy during lunch and dinner time. The only real negative is the service, which was a bit disorganized? (Hopefully that will improve)
