The Hague is a city on the North Sea coast of the western Netherlands and the only big city with a beach directly on the North Sea coast. Its Gothic-style Binnenhof (or Inner Court) complex is the seat of the Dutch parliament, and 16th-century Noordeinde Palace is the king’s office palace. The city is also home to the U.N.’s International Court of Justice, headquartered in the Peace Palace, and the International Criminal Court. You can visit beautiful art museums and a day of high-end shopping. The tram will convey you from the city centre to Scheveningen and Kijkduin in just twenty minutes, where you can enjoy the sun, beach and sea. The city has four brew-pubs as of Feb 2021.
Kompaan Dutch Craft Beer Co, Saturnusstraat 55
Kompaan is one of the new breed of Brewery Taps, it’s housed on a rather plain industrial estate. A nice looking place which uses old shipping containers and wood to create a nice industrial/maritime ambiance which fits the area. Inside it is quite a size, certainly bigger than expected. As you enter the bar is immediately ahead on the right side with some seating immediately above and further seating on a raised area off to the left side, and even more seating at the rear both at ground level and in a raised section. They have a nice selection of 20 taps, with decent prices. The brewery equipment can be seen though a glass/perspex wall off to the left side. Downsides are it’s in a bit of a remote location with nothing else of interest in the evening within any reasonable range. It’s not too far 1km from Voorburg trainstation though. Plus it's card only, you can’t pay cash. Food is limited, just burgers usually?
The Fiddler, Riviervismarkt 1, 2513 AM
A large English style pub with a big terrace right next to a big church in the centre of the Hague. A big bottle list, (50+) though the choice is somewhat poor. About 8 of their own brews on tap, decently priced and also available in differently sized flights. Helpful staff. All seems very fine, except for the beers that are pretty mediocre. Still a good choice to sit down and have a beer and chill. The Fiddler has its very own Micro Brewery. They brew traditional English ales on the premises. With hand pick malts and select only the finest English hops for their ales. At the moment they have brewed a pale ale, a stout, an English India pale ale, a red ale, a German weizen, a Dutch bock and a Dutch blond.
De Prael Den Haag, Esperantoplein 20
Oh my God it’s huge! And it feels cool to be in a bar this size. It’s for sure the biggest beer bar Den Haag has to offer now, there’s so much space. A huge warehouse style bar with seating for at least 100 people. A modern looking place with lots of wood and tiles. Not the kind of place you will find by accident! But it’s easily walkable from the center or a short tram ride. There’s 15 taps of Prael beers, plus a good bottle selection. Reasonable prices. Very friendly service and good atmosphere a plus is working Wi-Fi! Worth the journey for both tickers and drinkers.
Gastropub & Brouwerij Van Kinsbergen, Prins Hendrikplein, 15, 2518JC
A freshly opened [2018] brewpub in Zeeheldenkwartier. It’s a pretty cool looking modern but not minimalist place with 15 taps and a good selection of bottles. The brew kit is located behind glass and there are booths at the side so you can watch them if they are brewing. A large blue bar with tall stools all along it. There are also lots of picnic tables outside under the large arched windows. The service is friendly and helpful and the seem to know what they were selling.
Brody’s American Taphouse, Korte Molenstraat 2, 2513 BM
A cool place, modern decor but still very comfortable. An attractively decorated lots of wood and a lovely copper bar front, lots of big windows and loads of leather seats/couches. It’s has almost a Western look. 'American' craft beer bar with a very decent selection of US and Canadian beers on 30 odd taps over a great many styles so something for everyone (hopefully). They do flights which make the price tags bearable. A great addition to the local scene. Great service and a nice bar in the centre that will keep you going back to!
Murphy’s Law, Dr. Kuyperstraat 7
A small trip from city centre, this is a cosy corner pub, with a few seats outside and more inside. A much improved, Jazz focused, craft beer pub. Yes there is Jazz here most nights. Very friendly service, beers are served in good condition, good selection, both on tap and bottles. They don’t have a huge amount of beers, but what they have is quality stuff. The atmosphere is great so well worth a look in.
Café De Paas Bière spéciales, Dunne Bierkade 16a, 2512 BC
A cool canal side bar in The Hague. The ambiance is great as it is a typical Dutch brown café.
A classic beer place, lots of wood and breweriana in a long room, with the bar at the left hand side, and lots of seating spaces in front. Also a nice terrace on the canal, part of it on a vessel. The beer selection is 10 taps, mainly Belgian and Dutch craft beer with some imports, and quite a good number of bottles, around 180 they claim. Nothing to exciting, but good beers to have a few rounds in a warm and cosy atmosphere. The service is nice and friendly and they do serve some snacks.
Café de la Gare, Nieuwe schoolstraat 13a, 2514 HT
A brief walk from the centre, hidden in a quiet and pleasant courtyard. Quiet a friendly old brown style café with a cool atmosphere and some pleasant surprises? A light interior with brown wooden tables and chairs, with a sunny terrace out front. They had up to 10 taps, with good beers. The selection of bottled beers is quite impressive, with between 100-200 well chosen beers, some of them from Dutch micros and a good selection of Belgian beers as well. The staff a friendly and quite knowledgeable. Food is down to bar snacks, cheese and salamis. A bit out of the city centre, but well worth the walk. Well recommended.
Dorst Craft Beer Shop, Boekhorststraat 99
A great little beer shop just outside the centre of The Hague. They tend to have a good selection of Dutch craft beers with also a lot of Baltic beers, and some from other places. Not filled to the brim, but with a careful selection of quality beers. Good prices, bit cheaper than usual. Nice knowledgeable people. Good place to buy good beer.
Huppel The Pub, Oude Molstraat 21, 2513 BA
A small back street Dutch old brown bar, nicely decorated bar, wooden seats. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, good service. Decent range if small selection, having some modern Dutch micros next to the regular Belgian stuff. You can hardly move inside it's so popular, with folk spilling out into the narrow street. Service is quite good considering the crowds. Well worth a visit, a good lively atmosphere.
Cafe Restaurant Rootz, Grote Marktstraat 14, 2511 BJ
The city centre branch of Rootz is smaller than its counterpart by the harbour in Scheveningen but it has more character. It’s in an attractive old building with brightly painted shutters in the main shopping drag. The bar has barstools along the entire length inside is dark and atmospheric and there’s a nice leafy pavement patio outside. To the side of the old building is a once open space which has been made into a music venue, also with a small bar. A decent selection of commonish Belgian beers and a smattering of Dutch craft. A cool atmosphere, cosy with chill music playing makes it worth a visit.
De Gekke Geit, Lutherse Burgwal 5, 2512 CB
A small but cosy bar with plenty of seating and a bit of an alternative place, which belongs to a hostel, located near to the Grote Markt. They have four taps and some small fridges full of bottles. Very friendly service. A great atmosphere with the international hostel guests. The beer selection is OK with some of their own beers and harder to find Dutch micros. The guy working there seemed really into beer. Certainly a place to keep an eye on and visit for a beer or two every now and then. It can get crowded later in the evening particularly when there’s live music events on.
Hoppzak, Papestraat 26a, 2513AW
A cool cellar bar with a brown café style interior and frequented by a young crowd. This bar offers a wide and excellent selection of beers (an ambassador for Brouwerij De Molen). Great atmosphere, often has live music as well.
Lokaal Duinoord, Obrechtstraat 198, 2517 VC
A small brown café with some high and low picnic-tables outside, located in a lively shopping street with small boutiques in this remote neighborhood. They have 9 beers on tap and 70+ beers in bottle. It's not your average bar food here, no ma'am. The owner and chef here will cook you a simple but memorable meal. Their signature dish is a flank steak, cooked to perfection. Unbelievable quality food for your buck. All of the staff are exceptionally friendly! Also there’s at least two annual craft beer related events each year.
