Lille is a city at the northern tip of France, in French Flanders. On the Deûle River, near France's border with Belgium, it is the capital of the Hauts-de-France region, the prefecture of the Nord department, and the main city of the European Metropolis of Lille. Lille is also an architectural feast with strong Flemish influences from the Grand Place to the basilica of Notre Dame de la Treille to the quiet streets of row houses and gardens. For art buffs, Lille is home to the Musee d'Art Moderne and the Palais des Beaux Arts. Children will enjoy the Parc de Zoologique. Savvy travelers know that Lille has a fine public transit system, making this historical hotspot a pleasure to visit. Plus a thriving beer scene as I will strive to give you hte highlights below. (July 2022)
BierBuik, 19 Rue Royale
Open: Wed - Sat 12.00 - 00.00 Sun - Tues Closed
This new place in Lille {2019} has a really different theme a cantine concept with their own beers and some guest beers. There are 12 taps and some bottle's, mostly from North France and Belgium and 4 local beers always. They brew some plants or flowers! Taps are reasonable price but bottle can be expensive. Food (snacks) are available mainly fries with local cheese, or lentil falafel. This place is split in 3 parts, a bar (pink area), a more cosy room (dark area) and the restaurant upstair. Service is ok, not good, not bad. Also place can be really heavy crowed (especially on a sunny Saturday). Definitely a place to visit in Lille.
Singe Savant Micro-brasserie, 134 Rue d'Arras
Open: Mon - Fri 10.00 - 19.00 Sat - Sun Closed
A good start up microbrewery. A little hard to find for the moment but might change location soon? The managers are friendly and passionate, but the brews would benefit from having more character.
An inspiring visit for enthusiasts. A friendly place whether you are a beer brewer or a beer lover, do not hesitate to call on them.
Brasserie LIL, 35 rue Frédéric Mottez
Open: Thurs - Fri 12–2pm, 4–7pm Sat 10am - 7pm Mon- Wed Closed
Visit this young brewery in the heart of Lille it's very interesting. The enthusiastic owner Laurent Marcotte is inspiring and his plan to develop to draft beer is great for Lille beer lovers... The place is clean, bright, warm and friendly. Best of all, the beers are excellent.
I would recommend this brewery for a guided tour or to buy good beers.
Les 3 Brasseurs Lille, 22, place de la Gare
Open: Sat - Sun 11.30 - 23.00 Mon - Fri 08.00 11.00 & 11.30 - 23.00
This is quite a popular brewpub on the Railway Station square, full of tourists, commuters, even students. It has an oddly atmospheric interior, but ultimately the mood is determined by the hasty and uninterested staff. One can hardly blame them, poorly the executed beers, overly priced menu, clientele who is even shouting... Can’t recommend for either beer enthusiasts nor for the odd one travelling through Lille. You’re even better off ticking at another 3 Brasseurs franchise.
La Capsule, 25, rue des Trois Mollettes
Open: Daily 17.30 - 01.00 or later?
Located in the nice district of Lille-Vieux. Make sure to be there few minutes prior the opening, since many people come after the opening as the small bar is quite crowded within few minutes even on working days. A quite modern bar upstairs were you can sit and chat in the cool vibe, downstairs is a brick vaulted room lined in wood with large tables and and eclectic mix of chairs. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable bar plus speaks English well. They have 28 beers on tap mostly Belgian and French. Also huge selection of bottled beers. Prices are reasonable. Snacks are offered. A must go when visiting Lille.
Le Café des Six Roses, 26 rue des stations
Open: Daily 18.00 - 00.00 or later?
You will find this small bar near to the Solferino, but nothing to compare with the pubs there. The place is the size of a shoebox and is darkly lit, but really friendly, be prepared to enjoy some obscure death metal. On a summer evening there is a terrace to enjoy the sun. The laid back barman provide's a good selection of exoti products and also local beers. There are 20 beers on tap and a great selection of bottles. I really recommend this place if you like atypical dark beer and metal, it forms an explosive mix!…
Beerstro, 10 Rue du Pont Neuf
Open Daily 12.00 - 00.00 or later?
A modern and hip interior, lots of wood but not the classical pub feeling. Ordering system through a touch screen, self service from the taps with a magnetic card per table. There is a very pleasant outdoor patio at the back with further self service keg points. This is good for people who want to try lots of different things, but most of the taps are Belgian macro’s, so that was a bit of a disappointment. Very good food. Friendly service and definitely visit.
Bellerose Diner’s Bar, 8 Rue Royale
Open: Mon - Fri 11am–2pm, 6pm–12am Sat 11am -2am Sun Closed
A modern bar in Vieux-Lille with an industrial feel, there is a long bar to the right then the room goes quite far back with tables for diners. Im guessing this place is owned by Bellerose, but the tap list is surprisingly modern and varied, with some assorted French breweries. Serves Burgers but the kitchen only opens at 7pm. It is already a good place as a beer nerd to drop by and check their rotating tap list, perhaps you find some good French or euro craft ticks too.
L’Autrement Dit, 14 Rue Royale
Open: Daily 15.00 - 00.00
A good place to eat and drink. Alongside the major beers (Leffe, Jupiler and Hoegaarden), there are a few pleasant surprises like the excellent Chimay Triplke on tap for the year and some revolving ones like Anosteké blonde. They have simple homemade dishes. There is a small terrace quickly taken over on nice days. The bottle beer list could be expanded, but we are well above the average of the "beer bars" on this street. In addition, a welcome with a smile from the staff is really nice.
Le Black Night Rock Café, 29 rue de Roubaix
Open: Open 17.00 - 03.00 Closed Sun - Mon
A cosy eclectic street corner bar with a good Belgian beer selection. Its awesome. A very friendly and very metal orientated place. Its a perfect regular hangout bar while you can select your fav metal/hard rock songs and chill with friends, visit, drink and be merry!
L’Abbaye des Saveurs, 13, rue des Vieux Murs
Open: Mon - tues 14.00 - 19.00 Wed - Sat 11.00 - 19.00 Sun 11.00 -13.30
A bottle shop located in Lille-Vieux, 15 minutes from central station. Affiliated to La capsule. With a nice and big beer selection. Ridiculously low prices for some Belgian beers like Dupont Saison (1,50€). Also French and British beers offered. Also some french food specialities like potjefleesch offered in glasses. Nice shop and maybe even better than Celestine‘s. But the service could be better.
Les Bières de Célestin, 19 Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Open: Sun - Mon Closed Tues - Thurs 15.00 - 20.00 Fri - Sat 11.00 - 20.00
A very small bottle shop in Vieux-Lille, down a side street literally round the corner from Bellerose and not far from La Capsule. Well-chosen selection of modern French craft, lots of new breweries for beer geeks, including some of their own plus some growler fills. Other shelf space is devoted to selected Belgian, Scandinavian and Dutch offerings with a handful of UK beers. Prices generally ok, though can approach the €10 mark for some barrel-aged beers. An essential stop for anyone searching for good French craft.
