Bordeaux, hub of the famed wine-growing region, is a port city on the Garonne River in southwestern France. It’s known for its Gothic Cathédrale Saint-André, 18th- to 19th-century mansions and notable art museums such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux. Public gardens line the curving river quays. The grand Place de la Bourse, centred on the Three Graces fountain, overlooks the Miroir d’Eau reflecting pool. For more information check out the Tourism site;
There are 6 brewpubs in town as of Dec 2024.
The Frog and Rosbif, 23 rue Ausone
Open: Mon - Fri 17.00 - 01.00 Sat -Sun 12.00 - 02.00
A welcoming variation from all the French style pubs and bistros in the area. Part of Frog’s network of brewpubs. They have 6 taps, with 2 different from Paris line? No surprises though. It's quite spacious and rather typical British town pub. It seem's to be rather popular among the younger crowd, but all range of of age seems to visit. The beer itself isn’t outstanding or particular impressing, but not bad at all. There is a few other, perhaps better alternatives for a beer geek visiting in town, but this is by far the most centrally located one and perfect for a quick afternoon, early evening pint before dinner.
Azimut Brasserie, 5 av. du Dr Schinazi
Open: Mon -Fri 09.30 - 16.30 Sat -Sun Closed
A great brewery located a bit out of town but easily reachable as the last tram stop is right in front of the brewery. Inside its a working brewery with a "tap-room" space so you can have a few beers at source, sharing emotions and a unique moment! The team are a set of amazing brewers that are curious and inventive. They also have a Microcan CL5 canning machine and sell cans from the brewery. If you have the opportunity, do not hesitate to go to the brewery where you will be very well received and advised. Excellent value for money on the go. I highly recommend.
Au Nouveau Monde, 2 Rue des Boucheries
Open: Daily 18.00 - 00.00
A convivial, dimly lit brewpub with organic beers and Quebec dishes like poutines, plus burgers. Note all the food and beer is gluten free. They also train around 10 people a year to become brewers. (so they are really worth supporting) Otto Says, This is a fantastic place for good food (poutine!) and great beer!
Brasserie La Lune - Brasseurs Bio à Bordeaux, 87 Quai des Queyries
A large modern brewery, located out of the tourist areas. Inside open plane with some cosy leather couches and wooden tables. A good range of their beers and some food served.
Bordeaux Beer Factory - Brasserie Artisanale, 78 Chem. du Sartre, Léognan
Located a little bit far from the city centre but totally worth to visit! These two guys are passionate about their beers, they use the best quality products and brew the different beers directly on sight. You can ask them questions about the production process or just enjoy the friendly atmosphere or social events they organise. For around €7 you'll get 'beer flight' of four. Definitely a place to try!
Au Nouveau Monde, 2 Rue des Boucheries
Open: Tues -Say - 12.00 - 01.00 Sun 11.00 - 00.00 Mon - 18.00 -00.00
Good beers! After all that is what matters! Beers are brewed in the basement. They have 10 beers on tap. The 1833 black IPA (pretty good) and The Fair Black Lady (very good). They are also a restaurant serving tajines. They do an excellent chocolate and stout cake. Overall it is a very nice spot to eat and drink.
La Cervoiserie Bordeaux, 10 Quai Lawton
Open: Daily from 11am
A great place that's quite new but it has some character? A good beer selection and of coarse wine. There is plenty of space, comfy chairs, cool brewery signs on the walls. They have a nice outdoor area as well to enjoy the weather. Fair prices and pleasant staff, what more do you want?
La Cervoiserie - Floirac, ZONE COMMERCIALE, Lot. Commercial de Vimeney, Floirac
Sister brewpub to the above ^^ Located outside the city a large warehouse style building, that has outdoor seating plus live music and cabaret.
Space Factory - craft beer, 5 rue Beaubadat
Open: Tues - Sat 16.00 23.30 Sun - Mon Closed
A great beer bar/shop with several beers on draught served from 6 taps and a lot of approx 75 bottled beers. It is a trendy place on the western side of the city centre. The service is friendly and they have a good acknowledge of the beers. Also some nice things to eat. They stock a lot of Beers form a small French Micro Brewery La Debauche. The prices are all right if you compare them with other Pubs.
Le Lucifer, 35 Rue de Pessac
Open: Daily 18.00 - 02.00
This bar is the Le Lucifer brewery tap. located outside the touristic area. But a great surprise. The owners are a very hippie family, it seems that they all live in the same estate of the pub, and there they are all: grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren and yes, they are very hippies, it comes out! It seems that this place has a long tradition of serving great beers? You will find 18 beers on draught and also an interesting bottle selection of over 250? In addition, the pub is large, with billiards, and occasional live music, the charcuterie are made fresh plus cheese boards, sausage, foie grass. The service is very friendly and you can easily have a chat with other visitors and locals.
Le Sur Mesure Bordeaux, 17 Pl. du Palais
Open: Daily from 4pm?
It's just located in a pleasant relaxed square with other food and drink places, close to the river front. It has large doors and an open space inside giving it a warehouse style. The electronic beer board above the door is very modern though with around 20 taps available, but I think if demand grows they have more.
Les Berthom, 45 Cr d'Alsace-et-Lorraine
Open: 17.00 - 02.00
A corner pub a little way up from the river end of Cours d'Alsace on the north side of the tram lines. A local brew is available, plus a decent range of Italian beers but remarkably little from France and what little there was felt expensive. Chatty informed service.
La Cave des Moines, 57 Cours Victor Hugo
Open: Mon - Closed Tues, Wed Thurs, Sun 16.00 - 21.00 Fri - Sat 11.00 - 14.00 & 16.00 - 22.00
A cool shop/bar with vaulted stone wall's and an old eclectic selection of furniture. They play 80's music and they have a very well stocked bar, with a wide selection of Belgian beers and other artisanal and local beers. Interesting prices at the happy hours? Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, well worth seeking out.
L’Amirale Biere - La Cave, 5-7 rue Saint James
Possibly Closed
This is a great store. The people are kind, knowledgable and take their time. The shelftags are very helpfull as well, listing beer style, country, primary flavours, etc. They have beers from all over Europe: English, Belgian, Dutch, but also Polish and other East European, some Nordic breweries as well, and of course a whole range of French beers, half of them from Bordeaux and the surroundings. Only downside are the prices: everything is expensive, so you could end up paying a lot for average beers.
If you find something has changed or something new that needs adding please email an update.
A vote santé Otto
R.I.P.
Le Zytho, 28 rue latour
A great selection of 18 taps with only craft beers, which are change quite regularly. There are always a very good representation of French breweries (Debauchery, Corrézienne, Pépie ...) and a mix of English, Danish, American, etc Also a good but small selection of bottles. A warm welcome and wise advice from the staff. Inside it quite modern and open plan they do charcuterie and pizza's. Defiantly one of the best bars in town.
Le Titi Twister, 76, rue Leyteire
The Belgian beer bar "Le Titi Twister" is a short 5 minute walk from the Place De La Victoire in the centre of Bordeaux. Unlike its Tarantino inspired namesake, it’s a small but welcoming bar on a quiet side street. They have several taps and a relatively extensive beer menu. From the few french reviews I’ve managed to find, they appear to also stock some non-Belgian options from around the world. I wouldn’t expect too many finds or surprises but it is a well worth a visit in a city that is understandably more wine-centric.
L’Oiseau Cabosse. 30 Rue Sainte-Colombe
More of a coffee shop and cafe than a bar. Right in the heart of Bordeaux and only notable because they carry bottles of almost every variation from Naufrageurs for roughly 5E a piece. Good staff. and great cookies. Mostly just a spot for ticking Naufrageurs.
